Here’s a sneak peak of the potted herb and flower garden. The fabulous wooden cart was a get from Diamond Antiques a few years ago. It has turned out to be a fabulous portable “wall” on the open patio. I think I’m going to outline it with solar fairy lights. I can wheel it wherever I want privacy on the open patio. I love it!
Some herb pics for you. Here’s my process these days. Trays from the local paint shop in Brackenridge serve as inexpensive planters. I drill holes and add gravel, I get my herbs from my favorite greenhouse then fill with soil and plants.
My plantings are for a kitchen garden.
There’s some nice new tea from Harney & Sons and it matches the black and white striped awnings in the storefront!
The random pics are chives before and after the flower heads are cut away. You don’t want your herbs to flower so be sure to pinch those flower head off! Doing this helps to promote better growth and a good harvest.
The dill is staying in the hanging pot for now. I think it can get away from me if it goes in the ground. It’s a root system thing.
As for the dead plant in the pot, looks like I killed the chocolate mint. That was great for two seasons and I don’t think it’s coming back so I’ll get another mint.
This year I’m growing catnip! The prices have skyrocketed believe it or not. There is actually a catnip shortage. Dear Lord don’t let this be true. The last thing I need is angry cats .
It will remain, as always organic and better yet, locally harvested. It is a member of the mint family too so for now, it remains potted.
My second attempt at a potted garden has been working out quite well and it is relatively maintenance free!
I also turned my old water fountain into a planter. It was getting to be a bit much keeping up with cleaning it so I did this!
The lady head is morphing into a Flock of Seagulls hair thing. That is a Wedding Train coleus. The leaves are tiny and it will trail as the summer moves on.
