I was gifted this book about thirty years ago from my sister Mary Sue. It is full of boomer (sarcasm) pastimes detailed in beautiful, colorful pictures. I had it tucked away on a bookshelf for a bit and this past New Year I decided to blow the dust from it and use it as a sweet decoration on my rescued library table.

Like most of us, my personal tastes in decorating changed a lot since I had my very first apartment.  I still have my wicker side table that I purchased from a second hand store in 1977 when I was a nomad in Portland. I have always loved wicker because I could move it myself if I had to. Lol I still love and use wicker in my house to this day.

Over the years as I became more settled, I got into Victorian decor. I loved the furniture and the delicate floral china pieces and beaded lamps etc. It was a phase that didn’t last too many years.  The furniture was heavy, dark and paisley.  When we downsized, these pieces found a new home with a dear friend.  She always loved them so off they went.

I let those go because yet  another move took us to a single level home built in 1960. Now I am loving mid century and I’m actually not replacing a ton of furnishings. We furnished the living room with a plain, long low backed beige leather couch.  Just that and a gold, round shag carpet in the living room.  Yeah, baby! (in the voice of Austin Powers)

Anyhow, this book. Although this particular book is not a mid century modern book that depicts 1960 decor,  it does fit right in with my current tastes because my delights come in simple visuals. Plus, all I have to do is flip a few pages throughout the months for a fresh page to read and enjoy. I like things that are different and this book is a very interesting “piece” when you start to flip through the pages.

From ice-skating to ice cream socials.  It’s charming and I always think of my sister, Mary Sue whom I just don’t get to see often enough.

It is a part of my private collection.

Happy June youns!

(Ducktowners never said yinz)

and we all know that sometimes youns was younses.

You know who you are. Lol
