I don’t know why that is stuck in my head. At first I thought the title might be absurd, but now that I see it, I’m like hmmmm…that’s not bad advice to give oneself any time of the year.
Before the plumber, electrician, carpenter and excavation people all get here, I thought it would be wise to update the blog.
Three out of four of those folks are so we can get a new fridge. Mike and I evolved so much since we kept our groceries in the back yard in a shopping cart when we had our first house outside of Portland. Not a good move especially when Mt. St. Helen’s erupted.
With our first paycheck, we purchased a nice old fridge from Goodwill. I liked it because at 5’2′, I was a bit taller than this fridge. When everything in the world is taller than me. it was nice to be taller than a refrigerator. That poor fridge unfortunately fell into the hands of thugs . I killed it when I was defrosting it with a knife. (Insert taps here).
The one we have now has finally stopped and as a result all groceries are in the mini fridge and freezer in the garage. I have to admit, I did kind of telepathically throw bad vibes at it every time I walked by it. hehehe
It is amazing to me how many jars of this and that were recycled. A jar with three maraschino cherries, a jar with a a couple of pickle slices, a jar with one hot pepper, a jar with hot pepper relish from last Christmas. It was an impressive collection I have to admit.
The open house this past week at Diamond Antiques and Gifts happened and records for attendance were shattered!
There is really not much else to say other than a hearty and heartfelt “thank you” to everyone that came out for this social event of the season for Diamond Antiques and Gifts. Shoppers shopped, browsed, bought, snacked and enjoyed the company of friends and neighbors. What a lovely evening it was.
I can assure you that the heavy hitters behind the counter were exhausted by the end of the evening. The “heavy hitters” are those among the group that have strong math skills and good eyesight. lol A debt of gratitude goes out to the team behind the counter because it is the kick off for the holiday season and a lot goes on during those four hours. Like any party planner, it is stressful until the doors are locked at the end of the evening.
Brick and mortar. It is so great to see that people still enjoy coming into a store to shop. I believe it heightens all of the senses and this is something that one cannot achieve by shopping online. Not to say that I don’t shop online because I do. But, not for the special things that make up the treasures that you will find at 311 E. Sixth Avenue in Tarentum. It is something special when you get to see the inside of the beautiful old building that is Diamond Antiques and Gifts and even more special when it’s decorated for the holiday season. Who says you can’t go back?
Shopping in real life does awaken the senses. See all of the shelves and floor space filled to capacity. You may touch the treasures that grab your attention and perhaps nudge a sudden memory. You may notice the faint scent of soaps, candles, coffee and herbs. Or perhaps it is the faint perfume of our resident spirit, Ophelia? Music drifts quietly through the store and it is just a good, zen holiday experience.
Ophelia may or may not be around. It is all about imagination! So come on in, imagine what you want in your space that will give you joy. Weather it is a freshly built farm table to gather around or the centerpiece in the middle of it, Diamond Antiques and Gifts is here to serve you!
Christmas is coming and although it was 84 degrees a month ago, I have to say WTF? (That means what the fuuuuuuudge)
The crews are showing up and I have to make like a tree and leave. Insert groan here.
The Stillroom is located inside of Diamond Antiques and Gifts
311 E. Sixth Avenue
In the scenic river town borough of Tarentum.
The vendors are bringing the hustle to the party. Big store in a little town.
go to @lequitalee on instagram for photos that just might bore you into oblivion.
I think I figured out the picture posting. See that old sled somewhere around here? It’s awesome and heavy!
Happy Thanksgiving!
