This is a drawing of Angel. Angel was a rescue from a hoarding situation a few years back. She was never socialized as she was used strictly for breeding purposes. 😦
Angel was named by the volunteers that helped at Orphans of the Storm animal rescue. She was there for several months and was then transferred to the Camp Horne Road facility where she remained in the hands of a very good staffer there. Lisa would remove Angel once in a while and take her home to give her a break from the chaos of shelter life.
Before I met Angel, I had to have my old Chihuahua, Pipa put to sleep. Ugh! We know the heart wrenching experience of helping them cross over rainbow bridge. Suddenly, the house feels empty.
Months later, just for sh*ts and giggles, I started to peruse local shelters online. I figured the odds of finding another chi were slim to none.
As luck would have it for the both of us, a picture of the really sad looking, malnourished little white dog appeared. I had to have her. I had never rescued a feral Chihuahua before but decided to em-bark on this journey of unknowns.
In spite of the removal of many teeth while in the care of the vets at Camp Horne Road, the few teeth she had left terrified me. I started to pick her up by putting a blanket over her (while wearing gloves). This was the only way I could pick her up to go outside. She would let me harness and leash her. Angel had that sinking-in-kind of wrinkly lines around her little mouth, like old people when they don’t wear teeth. Angel was not used to being handled at all so getting her ready to go out took a little bit of patience and a lot of bravery on both our parts. She was probably as afraid of me as I was of her. Angel was five pounds of crazy. After about two months of gentle coaxing and finding middle ground I finally was able to gain her trust. This girl was the best dog I ever had. We had her for almost three years until she too, let me know it was time for her to leave this earthly plane.
My talented and thoughtful son drew this for me for Mother’s Day after Angel passed a few years ago. I had it stored away in a box in my desk. I’m so glad I found this because it reminded me of the great life experience that I had with the sweetest chi.
She was great.
I am having this framed.
That is Angel’s story. A proud and brave and fierce girl that just needed lots of love❤️
I need a cup of tea🫖
